John co-founded Plato Creative in 2007 with a simple ambition to help like-minded operators drive effective commercial outcomes. Fast-forward over a decade and Plato has grown to a team of over 40 people covering the spectrum of business-led creative and marketing services. John’s business nous and drive has guided numerous clients toward building measurable success. He sights a focus of growing long-term relationships and driving healthy-people cultures as key for any business. John also has a number of board appointments.
As co-founder of Plato Creative, Lisa has been the driving force behind the development of the agency’s creative and client service outputs since day one. More recently she has focused her attention to developing and delivering the next generation of operational and real-time solutions that make what we do for our clients more measurable and effective. Lisa is commercially astute and continues to lead a number of Plato’s long-term client relationships. She is a director of the Plato Creative board and is a member of the Institute of Directors.
With a background in all things digital, Mike is our partner responsible for the direction of many of Plato’s key clients. His experience in the emergence of the digital age sees him closely aligned to the strategy and delivery of business outcomes. Mike gets to work with our clients on the big picture around digital effectiveness, but more so, what it means for their customers and their holistic brand experiences. With an appreciation for the interconnectivity of brand, sales and marketing, Mike helps our clients set the direction of how to respond in a rapidly changing commercial environment. Mike is a member of the Institute of Directors.
As Plato’s Business Manager Phil ensures the smooth running of the operation from a day-to-day perspective. With a background in sales and recruitment he gets to work across our team of 40 plus people to help build our performance and outcomes for our clients. Phil is a real culture guy, and focuses on the key measures of success that include building great relationships with our clients in the everyday.
With a career in marketing and advertising that spans two countries and 20 years, there’s hardly an opportunity where Tim hasn’t excelled. Whether it’s in professional sports, FMCG, hospitality and tourism, finance or health, the common threads across every client he’s worked for are clear, consistent communications and a strategic plan that highlights areas to drive growth. Someone with a passion for building brands that have real meaning, Tim always finds a way to take creative campaigns to market with measurable results.
The only person who actively works with everyone across both offices on a daily basis, Lana ensures that every piece of work coming in is spread evenly across the agency and gets delivered on time. Having started out at a newspaper, Lana was managing the workflow of designers (as a designer herself) before joining Plato, so it’s safe to say she thrives under pressure. Working to strict deadlines and budgets across a number of clients comes second nature and she even finds time to take on quick turnaround work when needed. Someone who loves to help out wherever she can, it’s the satisfaction that comes from lending a hand that motivates Lana every day.
Dave has an obsessive curiosity to uncover. Combined with his pragmatic approach to solving business challenges, he knows how to use data and analytics to make smart decisions about meeting audience expectations.
Dave’s role as Digital Manager sees him create value for our clients by developing cohesive business plans that utilise clever digital tools. In an increasingly more connected world, where consumers have abundant choice and scarce attention spans, Dave is the person who helps quickly identify our clients’ strengths and weaknesses in order to explore opportunities to compete and the most effective techniques to get the best return.
Digital Marketing Manager
As Plato's Digital Marketing Manager, Julia takes the lead on ensuring our clients’ digital marketing strategies and activities are executed to meet their business objectives and delivers specific results. This includes leading our highly-capable and growing Digital Marketing team. Julia also brings to the team specific skills and expertise in the area of inbound marketing, a form of digital marketing that generates leads and nurtures them all the way to sales conversions along with managing our business relationship with Google and other key partners.
As a Digital Strategist, Tracey solves business problems using online tools such as websites and analytics. Bringing over 20 years’ marketing experience between Canada, Japan and the Philippines to a field dominated by automation and programmable tools, what makes her approach so unique is the emphasis she places on the people at the centre of these issues. Always focused and engaged with her clients, Tracey is truly observant and curious; using her vast cultural experience to discover insights and craft strategies that deliver results for our clients.
Media Content Producer
When expertise overlaps with passion - as it does with Kate - the results are stand out. Kate’s ability to visualise a client's needs and translate that idea onto screen yields engaging, high-quality videos. Beyond this tangible outcome, Kate takes each client on an enjoyable and rewarding behind-the-scenes journey as we work together to create a sense of pride and connection through pictures. With her long history in broadcasting and media production, including stints working for big names locally and internationally such as WhitebaitMedia and the BBC, Kate has a knack for visual storytelling.
Client Services Manager
As Plato's Client Team Manager, Rebecca's in charge of matching our clients with the best Client Manager for their particular needs. By understanding their key business objectives and the people behind them, she's able to perfectly pair a Client Manager who can successfully support them to success, but also click with them on a personal level. Rebecca brings over 10 years of media experience to our team, having worked in radio, print and digital advertising.
Since joining the creative and marketing industry with a large rural supply company, Sara’s career has spanned over 20 years and seen her enjoy various roles covering everything from marketing account management to marketing partnerships, communications, and campaign management. She spent the last decade as a marketing and communications manager for a major rural telco.
Sara gets a kick out of seeing a creative journey unfold and the brand play out in real life, but her real drive is seeing clients’ results roll in. Combine that with her ample experience in marketing for the rural industry and she’s the perfect fit for our South Canterbury offering.
As head of our Studio Team, Steve is responsible for the quality and delivery of our clients’ creative solutions. Having grown up here in Canterbury, over the last 18 years his career has taken him to Australia and the UK in roles across design and art direction, allowing him to hone his skills across a range of applications. Now back home, for the past four years he’s been driven to find outcomes that shift the dial on our clients’ businesses. Relentless in his pursuit for the best solution, Steve loves that he’s able to continue learning from colleagues and clients every day and challenge them to do their best.
A designer with an insanely accurate eye for detail, Amy ensures nothing is out of place when it comes to our clients’ work. Something they come to understand quickly, she’s thinks about the big picture when it comes to brands; considering not just how one looks but about how people feel as they interact with and experience it time and time again. An expert in anything print-related, Amy loves to work with people who care to create things that they’re proud of.
Raised in Timaru and now raising his own family here, Ryan rejoins the Plato team excited about bringing something a bit different to his hometown. Ryan’s a design veteran with over a decade of varied industry experience gathered over a career path that’s been guided by luck and life. The journey’s armed him with a wide range of real-life design skills, perspectives and social skills to deal with the ebb and flow of design agency life whilst juggling a family and all the chaos that entails! Even though he’s the least famous Carter in the family, Ryan’s still super ambitious and loves the challenge of creating something completely new from nothing more than a simple conversation or a few words on a page and taking clients on a journey of ideas and clever creative.
Well versed and experienced in a number of areas within design, Tim brings a wealth of knowledge to our Studio Team. Having started out at a printing company, his resumé includes stints working on some of New Zealand’s most well-known brands to freelancing and setting up his own type foundry in Melbourne. Working towards visual executions that solve business problems for clients, Tim’s holistic approach challenges both them and the brief with the goal to create the best outcomes. Someone who tackles problems from all angles, he’s able to distill everything into solutions that bring life into our clients’ business.

Someone who can see the big picture when it comes to any campaign, Brooke’s career has taken her from Christchurch to Auckland and back again with a number of successes along the way. Formerly a project planner, she is well-versed in coordinating teams, making sure deadlines are met and are KPIs hit. Combined with her work ethic and interpersonal skills, time and time again Brooke has proven her value to our clients; having led nationwide brand campaigns for two of them while taking another from ground zero to launch across all channels.

Originally a journalism graduate, Nicole’s background in commercial TV prior to a six-year stint as a copywriter has provided her a unique range of skills and knowledge; allowing her to seamlessly bridge the gap between what our clients want to achieve and what our Studio Team can produce to help them succeed. With her expertise in the planning, marketing and realisation of brand campaigns, Nicole loves to help our clients realise their big picture. And as someone who equally loves seeing work come to life, she’s no stranger to getting stuck in across all aspects of a project either.
Allie’s passion and drive for delivering value to our clients is evident regardless of the project. Someone who loves a challenge, she’s meticulous when it comes to planning and loves seeing a great idea come to life. Always up to the task, her high standards and work ethic are reflected in the way she can handle a number of projects at once with our clients’ best interests in mind. And because she can see the ‘big picture’ when it comes to managing multiple touchpoints, Allie is able to coordinate seamless outcomes with our Studio Team.
Front End Developer
Having recently graduated with her degree in marketing and economics, Bridget has already begun to apply her knowledge and ideas to the benefit of our clients. Working alongside our client managers, she has a knack for researching the competitive markets our clients operate in, helping them understand and discover areas in which they can improve. Quick thinking, organised and efficient, she’s already proven herself a valuable member of our Client Services Team.
Eamon’s been a qualified graphic designer for over 15 years and after a spot of travel (as us Kiwis do) settled into the creative scene in Timaru and gaining experience with two established local businesses. Local knowledge and an interest in online as well as offline design makes Eamon a real asset to our team in Timaru. He’s earned a solid reputation around town for a reason, having been part of the design/brand/web setup for a lot of successful local businesses and events. Eamon loves helping translate passionate business owners’ visions into creative and brands that look incredible and gets results. And when he’s not creating cool stuff for work, he’s creating at home, reliving his youth with the kids and their Lego.
Having recently returned home from the UK after two years working across a variety of commercial marketing and advertising roles in London, Holly is eager to reapply herself and create new opportunities for our teams and clients. Someone that adapts to challenges and takes pride in her attention to detail, Holly’s background in design innovation lets her see the big picture; allowing her to translate the goals of our clients into briefs our studio team can use to craft smarter business outcomes.
Formerly responsible for communicating the science behind climate change as communications advisor to New Zealand’s Antarctica Programme, Krystie’s skills lie in reading between the lines, asking the right questions and coordinating teams effectively to create the best solution. Someone who takes pride in keeping her clients up to date with projects, she enjoys being able to help ‘make it happen’. And having also spent time as an EA to a large team of investment bankers in Central London, she has the ability to distill the feedback of a number of clients into briefs that our Studio Team turn into expectation-exceeding work.

Having formerly interned with us, Tait has recently rejoined Plato following the completion of his BCom at the University of Otago. Majoring in Marketing Management, he’s already been able to apply his skills working alongside a number of teams here; making sure that projects keep moving forward and all parties are on the same page. Someone who balances realistic expectations with creative solutions, he takes pride in providing clients successful outcomes.
With a background in integrated advertising for renowned New Zealand magazines, Victoria knows what it takes to transform our clients’ stories and ideas into smart and successful business outcomes. Having spent time working with some of the brightest minds in experiential and event marketing in London and Auckland before returning to Christchurch, she never shies from a challenge. And by combining her expertise in media strategy and planning with her understanding of how audiences consume media, she is able to plan and execute campaigns that cut through the noise and produce tangible results for our clients.
