Challenge Rafting operates a variety of exciting half day trips on the Shotover and Kawarau Rivers. They also offer combos with jetboating, helicopter rides, bungy jumping, skydiving or the Shotover Canyon swing.

Their brand already existed and they wanted it to be applied to a fun, exciting and interactive site that entices active, adventurous individuals and groups to go on a rafting adventure. Further to this, they needed a customised booking solution so that users can build their own adventure combos.

Telling a story with imagery

The design is clean and functional and built around the use of full screen imagery throughout the site. This is because raft.co.nz tells a story, so you’ll notice the focus isn’t on company logos but instead on the action shots of people enjoying the rafting adventures.

Easy navigation and an easy-to-use trip selector allows site visitors to find trip information and book quickly. And the tagline “READY FOR THE CHALLENGE” bounces at the top of the fold, further adding to the feel of action and excitement and enticing users to scroll down for more info.

customised solutions

This website project was a reasonably complex development due to the booking system requirements; an out of the box solution wasn’t going to cut it. We customised a combo-building function that allows users to hand-select the activities they want in their package. The system then creates a price based on the dates and activities selected. Users can then amend or book their adventure.

There is built in flexibility to block out dates when activities are not available due to seasonal factors or public holidays; this affects the pricing of adventures which had to be factored in also.

Best practice design

The new responsive site has a seamless feel and incorporates best practice design to deliver a superior user experience with clear calls to action at every step to drive online sales and enquiries.
