When Norman, a well-known dumpling chef, decided to open his own eatery called Shanghai Street Dumplings, we aimed to help him create a really funky brand that people would want to share. It needed to appeal to both Chinese diners and everyday Kiwis, particularly the student market prominent in the area.
By collaborating with the business performing the restaurant fit out, we ensured brand and dining experience would match. Using beautiful 1950s communist Chinese posters for inspiration, we developed fun pseudo-political statements and brought in a vibrant contrasting colour palette to portray Shanghai Street Dumplings as a quirky restaurant based on tradition, that offers an authentic experience.
The result is an easily recognisable brand that’s an epic fusion of culture, flavour and fun. The brand style was used across signage and menus, website and digital social media.
